Migrating from WooCommerce without losing rankings
5 min read

A migration that loses 40 % of organic traffic is not a platform problem; it is a URL problem. Google ranked specific addresses. If those addresses stop answering, or answer with something different, the rankings go with them. Everything else — speed, structured data, a cleaner theme — helps only after the addresses are settled.
1. Redirects, built from reality
The NextAI-SEM importer generates the 301 redirect map from your live sitemap, not from permalink settings. It reads the URLs Google actually knows, matches them to the new product and category addresses, and writes compact pattern rules where slugs are preserved and individual rules where they are not. The shop, cart and account pages get their own rules. Nothing is guessed from templates, because a rule that matches nothing is a 404 with a false sense of security.
2. Titles that keep their shape
WooCommerce titles usually read Product – Store name. A migration that ships bare product names changes every title tag on the site at once. NextAI-SEM uses a brand title template, so titles keep the shape Google learned, and every product, category and post has a meta title you can set when you want something different.
3. Meta descriptions that are not the same sentence 240 times
Most migrated catalogues arrive with no meta descriptions at all — they were never written. The thirteen AI pipelines include one for exactly this, run in batch over the whole catalogue; through MCP you can also have your own AI write them with a preview first. A unique description is not a ranking factor, but it is the difference between a click and a scroll.
What to watch afterwards
Search Console is inside the admin, so watch three things for four weeks: impressions by page (the old URLs should fall as the new ones rise, not both fall), the coverage of the new sitemap, and URL inspection on the twenty pages that mattered most before the move. A redirect that points to the wrong category shows up there first.
